As the holiday season wraps up, Chippewa Valley residents have a few options for properly disposing of their trees and holiday electronics.
The City of Eau Claire has officially launched its annual “Merry Mulch” Christmas Tree Recycling program. Local residents can bring their trees to the City Brush Site at 5710 Jeffers Road for recycling. The site will be available every day from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm until January 31st. The facility will turn the trees into mulch to support the growth of new trees or gardens in the area.
The City of Menomonie will offer curbside Christmas tree pickups on Thursday, January 8th. Residents looking to take advantage of the service must clear their trees of decorations like lights, tree bags, and ornaments, and leave it at their curb by 6:00 am on pickup day.
Menomonie residents can also take their trees to Wakanda Park or Elmwood Park through January 12th for disposal, as well as the City Solid Waste site at 1601 Gilbert Creek Road. The solid waste site will be available for use on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturdays from 7:00 am to noon.
In addition to the burdensome trees, the holiday season also brings electronics that may need special recycling. According to the City of Menomonie, a number of electronics like laptops and cell phones are legally banned from the state’s landfills.
City officials shared a couple of recycling options in the Chippewa Valley for those items, including Recyc-All Services in Menomonie and First Choice Computer Recycling in Eau Claire. Some larger electronics like televisions or monitors may also require a fee for recycling.
