Four Dead, Dozens Injured in Five-Alarm Milwaukee Apartment Fire
MILWAUKEE, Wis (WAUK) – A five-alarm fire tore through the Highland Court Apartments in Milwaukee’s Concordia neighborhood Sunday morning, killing four people and injuring dozens more, officials said.
The Milwaukee Fire Department said flames broke out just before 8 a.m. at the four-story, 85-unit building near 27th Street and Highland Boulevard. More than 30 firetrucks responded as crews rescued residents, some of whom were carried out on stretchers and taken away in ambulances. Four people remain in critical condition.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Officials said the building did not have working sprinklers. The Red Cross is assisting residents displaced by the fire, with the building no longer livable.
