Thursday, May 8

The Vernon County Health Department offers “Wellness Screenings” the Thursday, May 8 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. The screening includes cholesterol and blood sugar levels, as well as an assessment of blood pressure and discussion of risk factors for heart disease. A $10 donation is requested but not required. For more information, visit the Vernon County website. For assistance in making an appointment contact the Vernon County Health Department by phone at 608-637-5251, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 to 4:30.

A Churchwide Rummage Sale will be held Thursday through Saturday, May 10, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and until noon on Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Spring Green.

The Ithaca FFA Greenhouse is open weekdays 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or by appointment and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. All proceeds help to fund leadership conferences and state and national convention expenses for the Ithaca FFA.

Ocooch Mountain Humane Society’s Animal House Food Stand will be open Thursday and Friday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Krouskop Park.

The Family Thrift Shop Board meeting will be held Thursday, May 8 at 1 p.m. at the Park Street Christian Church.

If you’re the main caregiver of a person living with dementia, you can join Agrace for a new “how-to” education series, Learning to Live with Dementia. The classes are taught by Agrace staff who have experience caring for people who have dementia. Two classes on caregiver training will be offered in May. The first session, titled “Communication,” will be held on Thursday, May 8, from 2 to 3 p.m. The second session, “Personality and Behavior Changes,” will be held Tuesday, May 20, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Each class is $20, and you may attend online using Microsoft Teams. Tech Help is available the second Thursday of the month from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Lone Rock Community Library. You can get assistance with your devices or computers. Walk-ins are welcome. There is no charge for this service.

The Lone Rock Farmers Market will be back every Thursday, starting May 8 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Center Park on Highway 130.

The Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, May 8, at 5:00 p.m. at the Riverway Board office in Muscoda. The meeting also will be broadcast via Zoom. Information will be posted on the LWSRB website regarding the connection to the meeting. The guest speaker for the evening will be Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife Biologist Annie McDonnell who will discuss management activities on state-owned land on the west half of the Riverway from Muscoda to Wyalusing. A portion of the meeting is reserved for public comment and, as always, the public is cordially invited to attend. Some River Valley Area Community Gardens 2025 garden plots are still available. 10’ x 10’ plots rent for $20 a season. 10’ x 20’ plots are $40 for the season and 20’ x 20’ plots are $60 for the season. The fee includes straw mulch, manure/compost, organic fertilizer, water to each plot section and hoses as well as the use of our rototiller and other tools. Friday, May 9

The Partners of the Richland Hospital will have a Spring Open House & Bake Sale in the Lobby Shoppe Friday, May 9, from 7 a.m. until sold out.

The 31st annual Gays Mills Folk Festival will be held Mother’s Day Weekend, starting Friday, May 9 to Sunday, May 11, at the Community Commerce Building in Gays Mills. Ticket prices are as follows: Friday night dance, a freewill donation; Saturday night concert, $15 for adults and $5 for children; and Saturday afternoon activities and Sunday morning Gospel Sing, a freewill donation. Break bread with community members at a free community meal each Friday at 5:30 at the Other Door in Viroqua, Vernon County’s Drop In Center.

The Hub City Dirt Drag Spring Opener will be held Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10 at the Richland County Fairgrounds. Friday night will feature a Test & Tune Truck & Tractor Pull starting at 6 p.m., registration will be from 2 until 5 p.m. Saturday will feature the Truck Show & Shine, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Starting at noon, the ATV & Dirt Bike Dirt Drags will be held, with registration from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. The final event on Saturday will be the Truck, UTV & Everything Else Dirt Drags at 4 p.m. Registration will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Admission to the Grandstands will be $10 each day, kids 12 & under will be admitted for free. Nonprofits who provide services to the greater Richland area are encouraged to apply for grants to Richland County United Givers. Please visit rcunitedgivers.org to submit an online application by the Sunday, June 15 deadline. Applications are based on the mission of United Givers. If your organization is approved for a grant, it will be listed on the website and the annual brochure, which is distributed across the community and surrounding area.

ADRC and Symons Recreation Complex will host the third annual 3K/5K Wellness Stride Thursday, May 22, starting at Symons at 5. All ages are encouraged to participate. The cost of registration is $15. The Viroqua Farmers Market will be held each Saturday through October from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The town of Richwood Spring Clean-Up for residents will be held Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the town shop. Tires and microwaves will not be accepted.

Ocooch Mountain Humane Society will host its annual Amazing Plant Sale Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Killian Meyer Building at Krouskop Park.

In conjunction with its Amazing Plant Sale, Ocooch Mountain Humane Society’s Animal House Food Stand will be open Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Krouskop Park.

Gardeners are invited to attend the Basic Gardening Workshop at the River Valley Area Community Gardens Saturday, May 10, from 9 to 10 a.m. Doug Rouse will be demonstrating gardening techniques and answering questions. All gardeners are welcome, whether or not you have a plot at the Gardens. Bring your own chair.

The Master Gardeners of Grant County will have a plant sale on the grounds of the Schreiner Memorial Library in Lancaster Saturday, May 10, from 9 to 11 a.m.

The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Vernon County offers a free social group for individuals with early-stage dementia. The social group meets on the second and last Mondays of the month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the McIntosh Memorial Library conference room in Viroqua. The social group provides an opportunity to meet other people on a similar journey and share life stories with each other. Spouses, adult children, and friends are encouraged to join the group, too. A Chicken-Q will be held Saturday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn of the Deke Slayton Memorial Space & Bicycle Museum. The meal priced at $15 includes half a chicken, potato salad, baked beans, and a roll. Tickets may be purchased online at dekeslaytonmuseum.org. Funds raised will support the museum.

St. John’s Lutheran Church in Richland Center Grief Support Group will meet Saturday, May 10, from noon to 1:30 p.m. for lunch and fellowship followed by a time of mutual support and information on coping with grief. All are welcome. Please call St. John’s at 608-647-3000 if you plan to attend.

The Yuba Fire Department will host an all-you-can-eat Smelt Feed Saturday, May 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Yuba Community Center. The cost of the meal is $16.

Knights of Columbus Council 3492 will host bingo Saturday, May 10, at 6:30 at the Richland Center Community Center. The progressive jackpot will be $2,825 + 50 percent of net sales in 55 calls or less.

The Jammers will be at the Richland Center City Auditorium Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.
