Everyone enjoys free items, especially when it is received via mail. When an unexpected free item is delivered consumers should be cautious because it might be a brushing scam. Michelle Reinen is with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection (DATCP).
The recipient of the package might unknowly be helping the scammer take advantage of other consumers.
Brushing scam packages usually contain a code that should be avoided.
