Taking what she says is a deep commitment to protecting the rights of individuals and upholding the law impartially, Judge Susan Crawford is one of the candidates for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Crawford joined Earl Ingram, host of The Earl Ingram Show, to discuss her career, approach to justice, and vision for the future of the state’s judiciary.

Crawford grew up in Chippewa Falls. She originally planned to be a teacher, citing her admiration for educators. But after some time in graduate school, she shifted her focus towards law. She tells Ingram a desire to solve pressing societal issues and safeguard the rights of the vulnerable helped drive her decision. Crawford has since worked both as a prosecutor and in private practice. It’s where she advocated for rights across various fields, from education to reproductive and voting rights. She is currently serving on the Circuit Court in Dane County.

“The role of a State Supreme Court justice is significant,” Crawford says. “The court’s decisions impact critical issues like women’s rights and voting access.”

Ingram asks about the importance of impartiality, and Crawford expresses concern about the growing influence of partisan politics in the judiciary. And she points out what she claims are her opponent’s connections to right-wing political groups.

“The courts are a firewall to protect people’s rights, particularly when other branches of government may overstep,” Crawford explains. “It’s crucial that our judges remain fair and open-minded.”

There are also record-breaking financial stakes in the race, and Crawford vows to ensure her campaign remains focused on reaching voters with her message of fairness and impartiality.

And as the race intensifies, Crawford tells Ingram she remains dedicated to ensuring the Wisconsin Supreme Court stays true to its mission. This includes safeguarding the rights of the people, free from political interference.

“It’s time to restore integrity and fairness to Wisconsin’s highest court, ensuring that legal decisions remain centered on the law, not political agendas,” Crawford says.
