Assumption Royals Win Title

Assumption Royals win title with Girls Cross Country placing fourth, again. Riverkings wins continue and winter sports are set to begin.

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. (WFHR, WIRI) – After finishing fourth a year ago, the Assumption Royals Girls Cross Country team had a case of deja vu on Saturday, Nov. 2 when it competed in the WIAA Division 3 State Champion race at the Ridges Golf Course.

The Royals placed fourth in the field with a score of 127 points. They were led by junior Lucy Dolan, as she finished fifth overall to reach the podium for the third time in her career. She was 4th as a freshman and 3rd as a sophomore.

Kohler won the D3 race with an overall score of 95 with Aquinas being the runner-up with a score of 98. Westby placed third at 122.Freshman, Reed Hartjes was the first Boys representative since 2019 at state. He placed 67th overall.

Riverkings continue stacking wins

After sweeping its home-opening series against Hudson a week ago, the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings went back on the road. They played a two-game stand against the Steele County Blades over November 1 and 2 at the Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna, MN.

Game scores were 5-3 and 3-0.

The Riverkings improved its record to 10-3-1 overall with 21 points to sit in 2nd place in the USPHL North Division.

Rapids will play three games over Nov. 7-9 with a game at the Dells on Thursday, Nov. 7th. They’ll play at home with games on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9 when they host the Northwest Express. The puck drops at 7pm both nights at the South Wood County Recreation Center.

Winter Sports set to begin

With all local fall sports teams done for the year, the winter sports teams are primed and ready to begin practice in the coming week.

Girls Basketball, Gymnastics, and Hockey begin practice on Nov. 11.

Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Boys Swimming all begin practice on Nov. 18.
