U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said Friday that he hoped to be able to respect the outcome of the November presidential election when asked if he or Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump would accept if Democrat Kamala Harris wins.
“I sure hope so,” Johnson said. “Unfortunately, you know, here in the state of Wisconsin that we have a governor who vetoed the types of bills that would restore confidence in our election system. So, you’re asking me a hypothetical question that I really can’t answer because I don’t know how many different ways Democrats are gonna want to cheat here.”
There has been no credible evidence of systemic voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
The three-term senator, who hails from northeast Wisconsin, defended former President Trump’s campaign and his proposals during an appearance on “The Earl Ingram Show” on Friday morning.
Johnson, widely seen as a staunch ally of Trump, was first elected to the Senate in 2010 and won reelection in 2016 and 2022.
