OSHKOSH, WI – (WGBW & WISS) – Oshkosh Police credit prompt actions of concerned citizens with thwarting an attempted armed robbery of an Oshkosh convenience store Friday.
The Oshkosh Police Department said in a press release that a 22-year-old suspect attempted to disarm the guard as he was servicing an ATM machine. While the suspect was physically trying to wrestle the gun from the guard’s holster, three citizens intervened by holding the suspect down.
The man, who police say had been living in his car in the business parking lot, is being held on charges of Attempted Homicide, Attempted Robbery and Terroristic Threats.

Subject: Attempted Robbery in the 200 Block of W 20th Avenue
(Oshkosh, WI) September 06, 2024: The Oshkosh Police Department investigated an attempted robbery that occurred at an area business in the 200 Block of W 20th Avenue, in the City of Oshkosh.
On 09/06/2024, at approximately 1:03 PM, Officers responded to a report of a male who just attempted a robbery and was now being held at gun point by an armed Guard.
The suspect had attempted to disarm the Guard while he was servicing the ATM machine. As the suspect was physically trying wrestle the gun from the guard’s holster, three citizens intervened by holding the suspect down and preventing the suspect from removing the gun from the holster. The suspect was then held at gunpoint until Officers arrived on scene.
Upon arrival at the business, Officers took the suspect into custody at 1:07 PM for Attempted Homicide, Attempted Robbery, and Terroristic Threats. He is described as a 22 year old male from Oshkosh who had recently been staying in his vehicle in the parking lot of that business.
The prompt actions of the citizens who intervened to help the armed guard at the scene were instrumental in preventing further harm and de-escalating the situation swiftly.
