Glenwood City Releases Audit Report of Former Superintendent

The Glenwood City School District has released an audit report regarding accusations against former district superintendent Tim Johnson.

Johnson was accused of stealing $290,792 of district funds over his ten years working in the Glenwood City School District. He first joined the district in 2013 before becoming the superintendent in 2014.

After leaving the district, Johnson became the Human Resources executive for the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District, but was placed on administrative leave as a result of the investigation into his prior conduct. In January, the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District and Johnson mutually agreed to part ways, and he submitted his resignation on January 29th.

The Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District has since confirmed through an internal audit that Johnson had not made any inappropriate expenditures or misused district funds in any way during his time as the Human Resources executive.

The audit report found that Johnson submitted and self-approved 15 educational expense vouchers for courses at Viterbo University that he never completed, for which he received $125,000 in stipends. He also received over $75,000 in reimbursements from the district for expenses. The report further found that Johnson had fraudulently claimed over $38,000 in performance pay as the District’s Special Education Director, a position for which he did not possess the proper credentials.

According to a WEAU report, the Glenwood City School District says the audit was completed by June, but Johnson attempted to block its release with an injunction leading to the delay in its publication. District officials say they expect criminal charges to be filed in the case, but none have been filed thus far.
