Elk Mound Company Hosts Governor Evers on Rural Road Funds

An Elk Mound company called Meyer Brothers Grain hosted Governor Tony Evers on Wednesday to discuss funding for rural road improvements.

The Town of Elk Mound was chosen as one of the recipients of the funding, and will receive over $400,000 to improve a portion of 970th Street in Dunn County. Meyer Brothers Grain has a facility along the road, and officials have complained that it is too narrow to safely support the traffic of their trucks and buses of children from the nearby schools.

The funding for the project is being provided through the Agricultural Roads Improvement Program. According to a press release from Governor Evers, there is nearly $50 million available through the program to support 37 projects across 28 counties. The Elk Mound project is among those to receive the first round of funding, and applications for further funding with the remaining $100 million in the program will be available later this summer.

Speaking on the importance of the Elk Mound project, Governor Evers said “The good news is we’ve passed in the last legislature a fair amount of money for agriculture roads. They applied for making sure they have a good road here, a short road, but an important road so that the grain can continue to be taken care of here and shipped out to folks across the world.”

The goal of the program is to improve the roads and bridges that represent critical infrastructure for the state’s agricultural industry. Qualified projects involve things like providing access to agricultural lands and facilities as well as highways designated as class “B,” meaning they have structural deficiencies or are subject to annual weight limits.
