GREEN BAY, WI – (WGBW) – Summer is approaching, which is the perfect time to have kids participate in some learning that masks as fun. One of those disguised learning activities is the summer camps at the Neville Public Museum

Beth Kowalski, executive director of the Neville Public Museum said that their camps will focus on the core areas of the museum which are history, science and art.

“We’ll talk a little bit about anthropology, which we have a very large collection of, a little bit about our photography, fossils, the natural environment,” said Kowalski. “It really hits upon a lot of the core pieces that we have, as well as adding and incorporating art into it.”

The preschool camp, for 4 and 5-year-olds, is scheduled for June 17 to 20th.

“They get a chance to learn about nature, and talk about paleontology, and learn about our natural environment through our bird collection, as well as the local history component of what makes our area so unique in Northeast Wisconsin,” said Kowalski.

The second camp is for 6 to 9-year-olds and is July 15 to the 18th. Kowalski says this camp is more STEAM related.

“There are similar subjects, but mostly science. Paleontology, archeology, and a little bit more art and science in that one,” said Kowalski.

Scholarships available

Camps are limited to 15 participants. The cost for each session is $195 for members and $210 for non-members. However, Kowalski says scholarships are available to cover the costs of the camps.

“We had a very amazing anonymous donation. So this year there are scholarships for families,” said Kowalski. “Summer camps can be a little bit expensive because they are pretty intensive. So we’re very gracious for an amazing donor that stepped forward and and said they would offset the cost through scholarships. So we definitely have funding available for families.”

For information on the scholarships, Kowalski says to contact her directly at (920) 448-7848.

The deadline to sign up for the summer camps is the end of May.
