Milwaukee, Wis (Civic Media) – A Pewaukee Pirate is a March Madness legend. In a stunning upset on the first day of the NCAA Tournament, No. 14 seed Oakland triumphed over No. 3 seed Kentucky with a final score of 80-76. The standout player of the game was Jack Gohlke, a Pewaukee native. Gohlke’s remarkable performance, coming off the bench, included an impressive 32-point display and a total of 10 three-pointers, falling just short of the NCAA Tournament single-game record set in 1990. Gohlke’s remarkable display has cemented his name in the annals of March Madness history, making him only the fifth player to achieve 10 three-pointers in a single NCAA Tournament game.
The journey that led Gohlke to his moment started at Pewaukee High School and continued at Division II Hillsdale College before transferring to Oakland at the start of this season. Gohlke was a double-digit scorer and earned the prestigious Horizon League Sixth Man of the Year award last year.
Oakland’s victory over Kentucky sets the stage for a second-round clash against North Carolina State. The Golden Grizzlies will be vying to become only the third No. 14 seed in history to reach the Sweet 16. That game is Saturday at 6:10pm.
Marquette plays today in the NCAA Tournament, the Wisconsin Badgers play tonight.
